Chesapeake Bridge Bay Tunnel (CBBT)

SUMMARY

To perform the 3D model required for this task, Azierta used several CADD softwares, namely, Au- toCAD, Revit and Recap.

The CBBT Parallel Thimble Shoal Tunnel Project will construct a new two- lane tunnel under Thimble Shoal Channel. When complete, the new tunnel will carry two lanes of traffic southbound and the existing tunnel will carry two lanes of traffic northbound.

As part of the CTJV Project and included within the temporary works needed on Portal Island 1, Chesapeake Tunnel Joint Venture (CTJV) asked AZIERTA for the 3D model of the tunnel entrance to ascertain and confirm the right alignment of the excavation.

Azierta was provided with a raw data in a cloud of points format and then, using Recap software, several cross sections were studied in order to compare and confirm the proposed excavation profile against the actual excavation performed. Thanks to this, CTJV could precise the amount of excavation still needed at the tunnel entrance.
