As part of the HRBT Expansion Project and included within the temporary works needed on the South Island, Hampton Roads Connector Partners (HRPC) asked AZIERTA for a design of foundations for a conveyor belt.

The project dealt with the design of foundations for a conveyor belt that will be located at the South Island. This conveyor belt is used so that the excavated material from the tunnel would be evacuated and loaded into barges and have its loading point onshore and the discharge point offshore, with an approximately total length of 447’ (136 m). Some of these piles were located offshore and some onshore. The piles will be of 36 inches of diameter and vertical.

Running along the offshore supports a steel walkway was designed to allow operations. Also, at the end of the walkway, a platform was designed in order to locate a spillage box.Marine elements have also been designed, such as, fenders and bollards considering the mooring operations
